Understanding Zakat for individuals

Zakat al-Maal, the third pillar of Islam, purifies your wealth and makes it grow spiritually. Obligatory for every Muslim who has held the Nisab (around the value of 595 g of gold or silver) for one lunar year, it amounts to 2.5% of your liquid assets (savings, gold, shares and so on).
